Sales of hunting and fishing licenses are assessed an agent fee. Under the agent fee program, clerks or other agents, including the agent for this online sales service, appointed by the commissioner to issue licenses are permitted by law to charge a fee for each license issued.

The Maine.gov website and many of the online services available are operated by a third party working in partner ship with the State of Maine. This is made possible though the Information Resource of Maine (InforME), which was created by the legislature in 1998 to be the state's eGovernment portal.

The goal of this partnership is to offer Maine.gov users a more efficient way of conducting government business through online services. The total amount you pay through this online service includes funds to develop, maintain, and enhance this online service as well as the State's official web portal Maine.gov, and Maine.gov online services like this one. This online service is operated without any state government funding.

Maine Information Network is the private sector company that works with the State of Maine and local government entities under the competitively bid InforME contract. When you conduct a transaction through one of our services, you are doing business with Maine Information Network. As part of our service to you, we will remit the designated portion of your payment to the State and/or local government agency, on your behalf. Any remainder of your payment, including statutory agent fees, is used to fund our operation and to cover any cost of sale specific to the completion of your transaction.
